Boys Varsity Highlights (12/11/2025)

Boys' Varsity Hockey has had a busy slate of activity since the Thanksgiving break. First, Varsity hosted cross-town rival OPRF in front of a sold-out Fifth Third Arena crowd. The game was back and forth for the first two periods, and the Friars carried a one goal deficit into the third period before erupting for three late goals to claim a 6-4 victory and the 2025 Paul Hruby Cup. Braden Machon (2G), Arden Tantaro (1G, 1A), Aris Vagias (1G, 1A), Cristian White, and Harry Sramek tallied the goals, while Lucas White (2A), Sam Schmidt (2A), Peter Hayes (2A), Blake Zorovich, and Jack Lotito all assisted. Braden Machon was named Series MVP. Thank you to Friar Nation for an outstanding holiday week turnout! After Thanksgiving Day off, The Friars turned their attention to the O’Grady Thanksgiving Tournament. In Game 1 Friday morning, they beat Evanston 3-2 in a close contest where Peter Hayes knocked in the game-winner with under two minutes to play. Sam Schmidt and Harry Sramek (1G, 1A) also scored, with assists from Lucas White (2A), Jack Lotito (2A), and Braden Machon. Auggie Leavy was huge in net with 25 stops on 27 shots, including several gems during a 3-on-5 2nd period penalty kill. In Game 2 on Friday, Varsity took down CCHL rival Providence Catholic 4-3, with goals from Blake Zorovich (1G, 2A), Jack Lotito (1G, 1A), Cristian White, and the game-winner from Harry Sramek. Arden Tantaro, Braden Machon, and Marco Gattone added assists, and Sean Imburgia had 15 saves. Unfortunately, the run ended against tournament host Loyola in a 7-3 defeat. Lucas White, Arden Tantaro, and Sam Schmidt (1G, 1A) all scored, with additional assists from Cristian White (2A) and a playmaker from Peter McFadden (3A). Following the holiday, Varsity returned to CCHL action with a big Friday night victory this past weekend against Benet. The Friars staved off a talented attack from the Redwings with a 16-save shutout from Auggie Leavy. Peter Hayes, Jack Lotito, and Aris Vagias all found the net, with help from Cristian White and Arden Tantaro. The following day, Varsity played arguably their best offensive game of the year against state powerhouse New Trier Green. The Friars jumped out to an early lead, but couldn’t hang on and conceded a 7-6 loss. Goals were scored by Arden Tantaro (2G, 1A), Cristian White (1G, 2A), Blake Zorovich, Harry Sramek, and Lucas White, with additional assists from Aris Vagias, Clayton Dine, James Papp, Nick Lotito, and Sam Schmidt. The Friars have key CCHL action coming up this weekend, where they will host Mt. Carmel tomorrow night, 8:30pm Ridgeland, and then St. Ignatius on Sunday, 5:20pm, Edge West.
