Boys' Varsity Hockey opened a busy extended weekend of games with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Brother Rice. The Friars had goals from Harry Sramek, Peter Hayes, and the game-winner from Aris Vagias with 51 seconds left. Arden Tantaro, Clayton Dine, and Blake Zorovich all notched assists. Saturday night was Game 1 of the Paul Hruby Cup against OPRF, with both schools selling out tickets to a rowdy student body. The Friars fell behind early in a very physical 1st period and went into the ice cut down 2 goals, but erupted in the 3rd period to claim a decisive 5-2 victory. Goals were scored by Braden Machon, Aris Vagias, Jack Lotito (2G, 1A), and Arden Tantaro (1G, 2A), with additional assists from Frank Zimmer (2A). The Friars are ahead 1-0 in the best-of-three series, with Game 2 coming November 26, 7:45pm at Fifth Third Arena. Varsity capped off the weekend with a 3-1 Sunday evening victory against St. Rita. Braden Machon (2G) tallied the first two for the Friars, and Harry Sramek added another goal in the 3rd. Sam Schmidt (2A), Chris Murphy, and Henry Schmidt all added assists. Varsity follows JV this Friday night October 24 against Providence Catholic, 8:30pm Arctic Ice Arena.
