Fenwick Girls Battle Glenbrook and York, Tie Both Games

The Fenwick Girls Hockey Team faced two powerhouse opponents over the past two weeks — Glenbrook and York — and came away with a point from each matchup, as both games ended in hard-fought 1–1 ties.

Freshman Libby Boveri scored the only goal in both contests. In the first game against Glenbrook, Boveri found the back of the net midway through the first period on a nice setup from sophomore Lyric Bessey. Glenbrook tied the game in the second period, and the scoring stopped there thanks to an outstanding performance in goal by sophomore Mikey Romero, who made 34 saves on 35 shots as Fenwick was outshot 35–10.

In the second game versus York, Boveri struck again early in the first period to give the Friars the lead. Bessey and junior Kate Mulvihill picked up assists on the play. Fenwick held that lead until late in the third, when York scored with just 4:21 remaining to even the game at 1–1. Romero was once again stellar in net, stopping 23 shots to help secure another tie.

Up next, the Friars travel to Northshore Ice Arena to take on New Trier on Sunday, December 14, at 8:50 p.m.
