Fenwick Girls Fall in Metro Semis, Rebound to Advance to State Final Four
The Fenwick girls hockey team came up short against New Trier in the Metro League Semifinals, falling 6–0 while skating with a shortened bench. Despite the setback, the Friars regrouped and delivered a decisive performance later in the week, defeating the Grizzlies to punch their ticket to the State Championships Final Four.
Fenwick struck first against the Grizzlies when freshman Claire Chalberg found the back of the net in the opening period off a crisp pass from sophomore Stella Neumayer. The Grizzlies evened the score late in the first, but the momentum shifted firmly in the Friars’ favor from there.
Fenwick took control in the second and third periods, adding three more goals to seal the win. Sophomore Zoe Rose and junior Kate Mulvihill each tallied goals, while sophomore Lyric Bessey added an unassisted score. Bessey and freshman Libby Boveri contributed key assists to round out the offensive effort.
In net, sophomore Mikey Romero delivered a strong performance, stopping all but one shot faced and anchoring the Friars’ defensive effort.
Fenwick now advances to the State Championships Final Four and will face the winner of York vs. Loyola (to be decided March 1) on Monday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Rosemont Ice Arena.
